Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Since the data exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the choices are limited because you shall not have root access to the machine, so you could just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etc. These are all actions that are executed within the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the web server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account with us and you want to deal with your content remotely through SSH, you could receive SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan doesn't offer this feature by default, you can easily add it with several clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you will see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You may also select what password you want to use, since it does not need to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a number of Help articles where you can find all the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they're used. In addition, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to get SSH access to it with a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, offered with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this feature by default, you'll be able to add it effortlessly using the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you shall discover the details which you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also needed if you would like to upload files via a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer. A detailed list of the commands you can execute will give you a better idea of what tasks you can perform within your account and each is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS

All our virtual private server plans feature SSH access as standard, so you won't have to add any upgrades or activate anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login information, you will be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've chosen throughout the signup procedure. Because the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions with regards to the commands that you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage more or less everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. In this way, you are able to work with your files, databases and any apps which you install in a fast and protected way.
