Every registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a particular website hosting provider. In this way, you've got both your site and your emails handled by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, when you enter a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having independent records for the website and the emails means you could have your website and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

With a website hosting package from us, you're going to be able to set up or modify the A and MX records of your domains and subdomains easily by using our advanced Hepsia hosting CP. Changing the default records requires 2 clicks and the creation of a new record takes only a couple of more clicks, so in case you have never dealt with such matters, you'll not encounter any problems. We also have a large help section that will make things even easier. If you want to change your email provider and you have to set up a number of MX records in addition to the default two, you may choose their priority i.e. which record is going to handle your e-mails first when someone sends you a message. Usually the new provider will tell you what these values should be. With our shared plans, you're going to have 100 % control of your domain addresses and subdomains and you'll be able to handle their A and MX records very easily and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you will be able to see and update the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you host in the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to handle the account, provides an innovative, although easy-to-use tool where all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to edit their records with no more than several clicks. If you have to create a new record, it'll be equally simple - pick the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you'll be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case that you want to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to create additional records aside from the two default ones. If you experience any issues, we have a in-depth Help section with videos in which you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
